Home Sick

Pops and I went to see BB king at the beautiful and opulent Fox Theater in Oakland. It was a fantastic show full of great music and fantastic stories in a magnificent venue by one of the greatest musicians of our time.

The show opened up with Lucas Nelson, the son of Willie. After that, BB's band came out and warmed up the crowd with two or three numbers which brought the house down. I think the median age of the band members was past the average retirement age for most of us, but other than the color of their hair (or lack thereof) they showed no signs of their age.

When BB came out, he slowly shuffled to his chair, tossing guitar pics to the audience. He sat down and stayed in his chair for a two hour long set, telling stories, belting out the tunes and playing Lucille.

I understand BB is coming to our very own Wells Fargo Center for the Arts on May 19th. Congratulations to those of you who already have tickets.

As for today, I'm sick. Bummer.

Welcome to Today

Welcome to today. I just walked the kids to school and now I have a little time on my hands. I think I'll change the oil in the cars. They're both due. But in order to accomplish this, I'll need to pick up another case of 5-20 weight oil. Yes. That's right. I change my own oil. It's not that I'm a mechanic-guru or anything. It's just that I actually enjoy changing my oil. My cars are only 5 and 6 years old, I have the tools I need, I like the smell of the oil on my hands and I like seeing my neighbors give me that cock-eyed look that says "What the hell is he doing?"

Today is also game one of the Sharks-Ducks series in the western conference quarterfinal for the Stanley Cup. The Sharks finished the season with the league's best record, winning the President's Trophy. What I need, though, is a good place to watch the game around here. Someplace where the screen is big and in HD. Someplace where my wife and I can yell at the TV with a bunch of other finatics that will high-five with me for every goal and boo with me every time Pronger touches the puck. I'll be wearing my #27 sweater all day today (except when changing my oil) and my daughter wore her #19 T-shirt to school today (good girl). We'll see y'all at the game on Sunday. GO SHARKS.
